Winter – January 6-8, 2017

I figure Winter’s over now, everyone told me I should wait, but I couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve even started looking for flowers and plants – fat chance! I did go ahead and buy some weed & feed that was on sale at WalMart. Today, Martin Luther King Day, when I returned home from my not-so-usual shopping trip to town, I grabbed the hand clippers and my “manly” clippers and went to work on my shabby garden out front. Everyone told me to wait until the chance of freeze is behind us. When, pray tell, would that be? We’ve had the strangest Winter in history. I have the A/C on for goodness sakes. I’m thinking it’s probably time to put all the warm clothes back upstairs and bring out the shorts and t-shirts again.

Boy, did I feel foolish though that first weekend of January. Thinking, oh my gosh, I’d better run to The Big Store and get some kitty litter for the steps, just knowing the next morning I wouldn’t be able to get down the stairs because of the freeze. The only thing frozen was the water in the bucket outside – Maezy’s water bucket. Go ahead and take those ridiculous plastic covers off your golf carts. Let’s get on out there on the beach with our flip flops, washer boards, lawn chairs and canopies. I declare Winter over!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
