I hope you had a great Memorial Day. I hope you prayed for all we have lost, those who have made us safe, and I hope you have hugged those who are remembering the horror of war. My words this week are not about sadness but about Love of my grandson, Jon. He has been trying to make it up to Lufkin for three weeks and finally last week we got together. Jon came to help with my projects outside in the yard. Thursday, we started with a trip to the box store for a yard blower. My last one died a few years ago. I have been looking for battery-charged items. He and I have checked out and purchased a new weed eater and now a blower. These are much lighter for me … I’m Old!
Our big project was the back of the property. The whole area has about five trees. Rob and I had about five cut down when we moved here. I did not have the stumps taken out so that makes about ten trees with weeds, barbwire and lots of vines. So, we worked and worked most of the day. Jon got us two lawn chairs so he could make Grandma sit and rest, and we had more fun laughing and digging and pulling weeds.
We got tired and took a break for lunch. Of course, off we went to my favorite Mexican café. We were so full after that, we needed a rest. Jon took off for Lufkin’s bike park, and a very happy and tired Grandma took a shower and rested. When he got home, he took his shower and curled up on the other loveseat and told me about his adventures. He is 50 years younger than me and has lots of energy.
We both slept like bears and were up to finish our chores Friday morning. Four very full bags of trash went to the road and then we started on the bird bath and two water feathers. I will be honest, I could barely walk, but I kept going. It was so much fun, and I loved playing in the yard and having someone to laugh with.
We finished our chores and got Jon ready to leave. He was planning a visit to the bike park again. I’m so glad we have a bike park. Something to lure him back here again!
