School is out For Summer and the Fun Spot is the place to go to cool down, rinse off from the beach and generally hang out to see all your friends. Working at the Fun Spot, are two certified life guards you’ll be sure to recognize. Cody VanZandt and Jacy Cole. Cody, Valedictorian from High Island High in 2013, has finished his first year at Rice, and Jacy, Salutatorian from High Island High in 2012, is into her junior year year at Lamar. Each have completed a very rigorous course for deep water certification. It was more difficult than they imagined. Out of five students, only four completed the 4-day, 5 hour per day course.

Jacy is studying Environmental Science and plans to stay near home, perhaps working for the Audubon Society when she graduates. She is also a Certified Pool & Span Technician – just in case you need someone who knows something about pool chemicals and design.
