The Bolivar Peninsula Lions are going into their third year as a club. As the motto “We Serve” suggests, the Lions Club is a non-profit organization who, through fund raising, pours every cent back into the community. The three major events of the year are the Golf Cart Poker Run whose funds provide school supplies for our Peninsula schools, Swinging for Santa Golf Tournament, providing Christmas gifts for area children, and The Stingaree Saltwater Slam Fishing Tournament providing scholarships for our youth. In 2014, with proceeds from the Fishing Tournament, the Lions Club awarded a $5000 and a $2500 scholarship to two well deserving High Island High School graduates.
Leaving their two year responsibilities as officers are Georgia Osten-President, Rob Byus-Vice President, Laura Pierce-Secretary, Brenda Flanagan-Treasurer, Chris Pierce-Tail Twister, Franks Chambers-Lion Tamer. The New Officers’ Induction took place last Thursday at Steve’s Landing Restaurant, with Lions Club District Governor Ronnie Martin presiding.
If you like hard work and giving back to the community, please come see us at Barefoot Bill’s on the Second Thursday evening (Taco Night) of the month – we’d love to have you!
