Mitchell Heroics Enrich Harrison/Giddens in Tuesday Par 3

By Mike VanZandt
Non PGA Head Golf Pro Mike Mitchell had just seen Class “A” PGA Professional Brent Smith chip in for a birdie on the last hole of the Tuesday scramble for an almost certain share of the skins pot. Mitchell lined up his slightly shorter chip and gleefully covered up Smith’s birdie with one of his own. Beneficiaries of Mitchell’s unlikely shot were Robin Giddens and Dabney Harrison, who had the only skins of the day. The Dabster, who has been in everyone’s pocket recently, certainly owes his resurgence to his new driver and putter, which replaced ancient relics that should have been discarded decades ago. The Dabbler also captured low score honors with a 29. Casa Mare exec Paul Williams (seven par/two doubles), international golfer David Buchanan, and Brent Smith carded 31’s. Shannon O’Brien and Mike VanZandt were three shots back at 32. Jerry Riddle and Robin Giddens had one par and one birdie between them and finished out of the money. (2013-12-03)

O’Brien Handles Eagle Pointe
Eight Ranch Irregulars traveled to Eagle Pointe with their skins game on Wednesday, December 12th to show off their short game skills developed on the tough Par 3 courses at the beach. Shannon O’Brien finished strong 41/40 to edge Mike VanZandt 38/45 by two shots. Wes Weisinger had a pair of 43’s and executive golf course super Mike Mitchell had a brace of 49’s. The Dabtician didn’t make a double bogey all day, but his four triple bogeys had him finish with a 90. David Buchanan (87), John Milby (90), and Dewey Jones (94) also made the trip. Flounder master Jones had a nice 43 on the front side that also saw him win a skin on the seventh hole. (2013-12-04)
