“P”, What a Fun Boy

By Georgia Osten
We got to pick up Pierce for the weekend, time to spend with Nana & PawPaw. PawPaw crossed the ferry to meet Daddy and “P” early Friday morning. We call him “P” because it’s short for Pierce. Nana was at work and P and PP had plenty to do, like drive the trailer somewhere, but first Dannay’s because P hadn’t had breakfast, then take Maezy to the beach … you know, important stuff like that. When I got home, nothing would do, but we had to go to the beach to play. “Don’t forget the beach toys,” P demanded. Okay, a couple of hours at the beach, the water was perfect!! Hardly a ripple. Maezy and P had a grand time.

Home to dinner, not popcorn shrimp anymore, he’s off that! Chicken strips, that he said he didn’t want, but ate two. I stocked up on a lot of fresh fruit at the HEB, strawberries, Cantaloupe and blueberries and of course 2% milk. “Nana, why do you give me so much milk to drink?” My reply, “Because I love milk!” I do, I could seriously drink it morning, noon and night!

Saturday morning, was an early wake up, PP was making waffles! “I don’t like waffles,” says P. He proceeds to eat one, then “Can I have another one?” It’s all good …

Off we went to Stingaree for the Kid’s Fishing Tournament. Each kid got to pick out a fishing pole, which they got to KEEP! P, with some guidance, casted out there on the dock at Stingaree, and didn’t get a nibble. Brad came along, poked PP and said, “Come on over here.” We followed Brad over to the Intracoastal side. First cast, P snagged a big ‘un! It was a hardhead, and a pretty good one. Next cast, this one’s a doozy! P struggled and struggled, a guy went to find a net and climbed over the railing to help pull this fish in – it’s a Drum!!! Man oh Man! We had Mommy and Daddy on speaker while he was bringing it in, somebody was videoing it as it happened – Oh my gosh! First time for this little guy to fish, what a treat! He almost won biggest fish, but he got a green ribbon instead for participating. For a 4 year old, that was a grand moment! And a T-shirt and a fishing pole and a hot dog and fries!

The rest of the day was spent at the beach – another perfect day, P and PP walked out to the sand bar, then the Ice Cream truck came, Nana stopped it, and the guys hurried back in to tell the Ice Cream guy what we wanted.

Church on Saturday evening, I didn’t think he’d make it, but what a trooper, what a good boy in church.

We returned P to his parents and his Brothers on Sunday at lunch at Yaga’s. He was really a tired little fella by then. Some tired Grandparents too – Time for a nap!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
