Pass the Napkins Please

Make way for the ribs! Twenty-seven teams equals twenty-seven ribs, bite by bite we made it to #26 and I thought we were through when William threw another rib onto my plate. You’ve got to be kidding?? I was back up to my husband Saturday. He was chosen to judge the ribs at the Port Bolivar BBQ Cook Off. He was also chosen to take pics at the Bolivar Rig Run earlier that day.

As the race went on from the beach at Barrel 56 out to the rig and back, it was becoming clearer that my husband wasn’t going to make it to the Cook Off. Almost all the boats came flying in early, all except one. That one was crippled, so a couple of speedy boats went out looking for them. Then, the jet ski went out to pull the crippled boat in. Then, the jet ski ran across some bad luck. Finally, all boats were accounted for and the jet ski was rescued by the Coast Guard.

The ribs fell on my shoulders so to speak.

I’ll have to admit it was really fun, and I volunteered for next year. There were 5 judges for each category. William’s helper was very obliging when we requested things like more tea, more water and my request – toothpicks! She’s made a list for next year – Tums, toothpicks, crackers and very important Beeno for the sake of everyone else who had to be around the bean tasters!

Mighty fine BBQ-ers out there!

What a fine event, I’m proud I was second in line to be chosen as a judge!

Thanks Honey
