Sand Bucket

Yesterday – it finally quit raining (for a little while). Thank goodness, we were feeling a little cabin fever. We decided to grab the dog, wade under the house and pull out the kayaks. It wasn’t easy getting her into the kayak, but we kept telling her we were going to the beach. It was easy crossing the yard, floating down the street and sailing through the slough. When we reached the beach, there was the perfect washout to guide the kayak on out to the surf. No, seriously…all the rain, lovely as it is. Our grass loves it and the newly manicured garden is smiling. I saw a friend today at The Big Store who said “beware of snakes.” She lives in Rancho Carribe and happened upon two of them today. Lordy, now that is one thing I can’t imagine running into.

We had another watermelon raid the other night. They managed to get three more out of the garden. They had them scattered all over our neighbors’ lots. We’re thinking raccoons or maybe skunks. Who knows? Hopefully, not coyotes.

Labor Day will be upon us soon, the last holiday of the summer. Our beaches will be empty and our roads clear of golf carts and ATVs. The only folks we’ll see now at The Big Store will be our neighbors and other locals. We won’t look stupid for going there on a weekend.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
