What’s for Breakfast?

By Cindy Clay Srader,
When planning a kitchen, I always like to have an area designated for breakfast prep. Placing your microwave, coffee maker and other breakfast supplies all being in one place is a great convenience. Duplicating this same area in a master suite lets the owners have their first cup of coffee in the morning privately and if they are lucky enough to have a deck off of their bedroom, a view of the sunrise.

Also in this kitchen, the stools at the bar are a more modern version of what is known as the Navy Chair. This chair was created by the Emeco Company in 1944 to be a light-weight, rust resistant chair for submarines. Made from aluminum that is processed to be very hard, makes this chair very durable and can be used outside if you wish. The story goes that to prove how durable, the President of the company threw the chair out of a 6 story building, where it sustained only a few scratches. There are many knock-offs today and several colors and styles. If you are looking for something that is durable and rust proof, this may be the chair for you. To me the funny thing is how modern the chairs look when they are really “retro”!

HOW TO”…look great at the beach

After sunning or swimming most women feel like they look their worst. Here is a neat way to keep your hair under control. These pins are made with shells and glued to a regular bobbie pin. By using strong glue, insert the rounded end into the open end of the shell. Whether you just use them to pull your hair out of your face or to be a decorative edge to a French twist! This is something I will make right away. Simple but elegant! (2014-02-18)
