Wildflowers

By Georgia Osten
It’s that time of year again – Wildflowers are popping up all over the place. Among a few, Crow Poison, Philadelphia Fleabane, Western Primrose, Indian Blanket or Firewheels, Squawfeather and Blue Eyed Grass.

(L) Crow Poison-Nothoscordum bivalve, (R) Philadelphia Fleabane-Erigeron philadelphicus

(L) Western Primrose-Calylophus Hartweggii, (R) Indian Blanket-Gaillardia pulchella

(L) Squawfeather-Castilleja integra, (R) Blue Eyed Grass-sisyrinchium ensigerum

I haven’t seen any Evening Primrose yet or Bluebonnets, but with all the rain we’ve had, they should be in abundance this Spring.

  1. Since I assume all gardeners will be reading this great wildflower report (thanks, Georgia!), I hope you don’t mind if I use your comments to make an apology. For everyone who clicked on the link at right for our Lazy Gardener and Friends Newsletter, and were horrified by the fact that I left Galveston Extension Service out of the listings, then take comfort in the fact that my BOI cousins are already riding me down the rails for this omission. No excuse. Just a horrible senior moment. And I will make it up next week with an extended section on the fabulous Galveston County Agri-Life and Master Gardener programs. Mea culpa.
